Royal Air Force granted licence to generate solar energy

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission has granted the Royal Air Force a license to generate electricity from solar energy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday. The licence allows the establishment, ownership, amendment, operation, maintenance and administration of the facilities of the generation station, in addition to selling electricity to any licensed third party as stipulated in the law.

Petra quoted an Energy Ministry statement as saying that the 10-megawatt project in Mafraq is considered the biggest in the public sector.

The force command said that the project uses solar cells that track the sun’s movement, which increases the generation period. Also on Tuesday, Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif opened the Mafraq 1 and 2 stations, 80km northeast of Amman, to produce electricity from solar energy with a total capacity of 133.4 megawatts and a cost of $180 million.
