Dublin to Hold Conference to Support Palestinians in Peace Negotiations

Asharq Al-Awsat

A conference on Palestine will be held in the Irish capital, Dublin, in conjunction with the US administration’s announcement of its plan to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, a senior European diplomat said that

The conference came at the invitation of Ireland, which is known for supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums. It will be held at the level of foreign ministers, with the participation of Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority, while European representation will include Ireland, France, Sweden and the Netherlands.

“The conference will discuss possible measures to determine the red lines that relate to the core issues of the conflict, especially the issues of Jerusalem and the right of the refugees to return to their villages and towns that they were forced to leave during the 1948 Nakba,” the diplomat told Israel’s Channel 13.

The Irish move is aimed at finding a unified formula for dealing with the US plan known as the “Deal of the Century” and to develop a strategy to highlight the “Palestinian constants” against attempts to disregard them.

These attempts were reflected in Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of its embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

“We want to sit down with the Palestinians to talk to them about their position on the Trump peace plan and the possible ways to restart the peace process. But basically, the conference will be held to give the Palestinians a feeling that they are not alone and that they have Arab and European support,” the diplomat was quoted as saying.

The Israeli foreign ministry accused Ireland of bias, noting that it was closely monitoring the upcoming events in Dublin.
