AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry condemned on Friday the Israeli strike on the town of Beit Jinn in the countryside of Damascus, saying the attack constituted a “flagrant violation” of Syria’s sovereignty and international law.

 

In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said the Kingdom “categorically rejects and strongly denounces” the Israeli operation, calling it a direct assault on the lives of Syrian civilians and a breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

 

He urged Israel to halt all military actions on Syrian territory, which he said contravene the UN Charter and heighten regional tensions.

 

Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s “full solidarity” with Syria’s security, stability, and territorial integrity, and called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring Israel to end what he called its unlawful attacks and its ongoing occupation of Syrian land.

 

He extended condolences to the Syrian government and people and to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

 

Israeli forces killed 13 people on Friday in an operation in southern Syria, the deadliest since Bashar Assad's fall from power nearly a year ago.

 

The official SANA news agency, quoting the Syrian health ministry, reported 13 dead and 24 more wounded in the Israeli operation.

 

The Syrian foreign ministry condemned the operation as a "war crime" and accused Israel of wanting to "ignite the region".
