King discusses cooperation with European Commission president

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, in Strasbourg on Tuesday, met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and discussed the partnership between Jordan and the European Union in various fields, especially economic areas, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.
 
During the meeting, which continued over a working dinner, King Abdullah expressed appreciation for the support provided by the EU to Jordan in various sectors, stressing keenness to expand cooperation and partnership between Jordan and the EU, according to a Royal Court statement.
 
Discussions covered the potential of extending the EU-Jordan Partnership Priorities, which concludes at the end of this year.
 
Regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach, and coordination between Jordan and the EU in this regard, through the Aqaba Process meetings, were highlighted.
 
The importance of stepping efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises was also stressed.
 
His Majesty stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the region, and avoid any threat to its security and stability, emphasising the EU’s important role in this regard.
 
For her part, the European Commission president expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role, led by the King, in hosting refugees.
 
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty for Communication and Coordination Bisher Al Khasawneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Belgium and the EU Yousef Bataineh attended the meeting.
