The level of abstention in the second round of the French presidential election was the highest in nearly 50 years, at over 25 percent, pollsters said Sunday.
Between 25.3 percent and 27 percent of voters did not cast a ballot, up from 19.65 percent in the 2012 election, Ipsos, Elabe and Kantar Sofres pollsters estimated.
The post-war record for abstentionism was in 1969, when 31.1 percent of the electorate did not cast a vote in the election run-off.
