Mabarrat Um Al Hussein and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) — Public Action for Water, Energy, and Environment Project (PAP) launched this week a project as model for sustainable energy and water consumption to communities across Jordan. The Mabarrat will serve as a “Green” educational centre to foster, instil, and promote water and energy conservation awareness and behaviour change. The project features the installation of Photovoltaic and water harvesting systems, which will make reduced water and energy consumption inherent to the culture of the Mabarrat, and will demonstrate its commitment to efficient technologies and responsible behaviours. Furthermore, the project includes a comprehensive education and outreach component, conducted through a series of workshops specifically tailored to community target groups of east Amman, including women, schoolchildren, religious and community leaders, and private business owners to ensure the programmes long-term sustainability and impact. The grant was signed by Madeeha Abu Hassan, vice president of Mabarrat Um Al Hussein’s board of directors, and Robert Cardinalli, PAP chief of party.
