Egypt Provides More Than 1M Vaccine Doses to Universities

Asharq Al-Awsat

The Egyptian Cabinet denied on Friday reports circulating on social media that fines have been imposed on unvaccinated university students.

The health ministry has inoculated more than 1 million in the higher education sector.

Egypt recorded Thursday 883 COVID-19 infections and 46 deaths. So, the total figures became 321,967 cases, 18,151 fatalities, and 271,792 recoveries.

Workers and students have not been allowed into schools and universities without proof of either receiving at least one dose of a vaccine or a weekly negative PCR result.

The higher education ministry called on students who have not been inoculated yet to swiftly get the vaccine inside the universities.

The government has allocated 302 vaccination centers in 60 universities nationwide to vaccinate university staff and students, administering a total of 1.2 million doses of vaccines through October 16.

A total of 26 hospitals affiliated with 18 universities have been designated to provide health and treatment isolation services for the infected. There are also 36 additional hospitals affiliated with 19 universities to receive coronavirus patients.

The government urged the media and social media users to be accurate when publishing news, and to communicate with the relevant parties to double-check any baseless information.
