Kuwaiti social media influencer Fouz Al-Fahad has been referred to the public prosecutor after posting a video on her snapchat channel where she promoted to her followers a device, she claimed detects the coronavirus.

The ministry of health referred a famous ‘fashionista’ to the Public Prosecution for promoting a coronavirus-testing device which is unlicensed by the ministry, reported Media Court, a Kuwaiti channel for judicial and security news licensed by the Ministry of Information reported.

 

 

In al-Fahad's Snapchat video she says: “This is a coronavirus test you can take at home, you use it only once, to check if you are infected by the coronavirus or not. Of course, this is a test that has a 95 percent accuracy rate… For anyone who can get their hands on it, and I think it will be available in the coming period, it’s good to have at home.”

 

“The device has a needle just like the diabetes testing device, you place a drop of your blood in this opening, add the provided solution in this larger circular opening and wait for 15 minutes. If you get one line, that means the test is negative. If you get two lines, that unfortunately means it’s positive.”

 

A Kuwaiti lawyer, Bashar al Nassar, explained that anyone who promotes medical equipment or drugs without pre-approval from the ministry of health is violating the law and added that the individual could face one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to 1000 Dinars or either of the two.
