Deputy PM, Hneifat stress 'priority' of agricultural sector

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Rajai Muasher on Saturday said that the agricultural sector is a "national priority", voicing the government's keenness on offering all the opportunities to ensure the fulfilment of the sector's "developmental" role in achieving food security.
 
During his meeting with the ministerial committee members and representatives of agricultural associations and organisations, Muasher said the government is committed to hearing the demands and issues faced by this "vital" sector so as to identify the problems, draft recommendations and reach compromises to improve the agricultural sector.
 
On the agricultural production inputs' tax, he said that the government is currently studying the economic and social effects, in addition to the financial impact, of the various taxation decisions.
 
For his part, Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat stressed the importance of a comprehensive collaborative approach by the various parties to support the sector, which accounts for 20 per cent of the national production and offers job opportunities to a large number of citizens.
