AMMAN — Two coronavirus-related deaths and 67 cases, including 61 local infections, were registered in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 2,478, the government announced.

 

Director of Prince Hamzah Hospital Abdul Razzaq Khashman on Monday announced that a 37-year-old Jordanian citizen died from COVID-19 in the hospital, pointing out that the deceased had not suffered from any chronic diseases.

 

Later in the day, Khashman announced that an 85-year-old woman had also died of COVID-19 in the hospital, pointing out that the deceased, who was put on a ventilator few days ago, had been suffering from chronic health conditions, according to Petra.

 

The Kingdom's coronavirus death toll now stands at 18, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.

 

The local cases included 46 infections in Amman, of which 39 are contacts of COVID-19 patients, while the sources of the other seven infections are under investigation, the statement added. 

 

Also among the domestic infections are eight cases in Irbid, six in Balqa, who are all contacts of COVID-19 positive persons, in addition to a case in Madaba, whose source of infection is still under investigation

 

The cases from abroad comprised six individuals, who have been in quarantine at designated hotels.

 

Meanwhile, 61 recovered patients left hospitals on Monday, 32 from Prince Hamzah Hospital and 29 from the Dead Sea quarantine site.

 

The statement also added that the epidemiological investigation teams conducted 8,967 virus tests on Monday, increasing the total number of tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 903,365.

 

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by Defence Order No.11 and adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

 

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a virus positive individual, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological status.
