Farmers in dire need of marketing company — stakeholders

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Farmers threw their produce on the streets in a sign of anger towards their losses, demanding more steps to improve their sector's deteriorating conditions

“Farmers carry heavy burdens, mainly high production cost," said Adnan Khadam, head of the Jordan Valley Farmers Union, told The Jordan Times on Saturday.

Khadam said that the high cost of farming is a major turn off for 400,000 Jordanians who make their living solely from selling their crops."

Nawash Yazjeen, a farmer, said the inability to market the agricultural product is another major burden on farmers.

“Our main issue lies in exporting and marketing our produce that overflowed due to warm weather. We used to export our products to Syria but that stopped in 2012. The European markets that were opened to us have all closed due to the coronavirus," Yazjeen said.

“Framers need a marketing company to help them market and sell their produce,” Khadam said.

The farmers called on the government to reduce production cost on farmers and provide them with more incentives.
