The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Minister of Planning Wissam Rabadi on Tuesday announced that the ministry has completed the first stage of developing the unified national registry, which aims to establish and utilise the unified Platform Portable database.

Platform Portable, which is set to be launched in the near future, stores information on Jordanian families through establishing electronic connections with official authorities, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

The Jordanian government obtained a grant from the World Bank Group in the amount of $2.5 million to implement the unified national registry programme, with the aim of creating and enhancing social safety net programmes and developing an effective communication mechanism.

During its first stage, the registry incorporated six government agencies: The National Aid Fund, the Social Security Corporation, the Civil Status and Passports Department, the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department, the Income and Sales Tax Department and the Ministry of Finance’s Retirement Administration.

The data exchange system was tested through the process of verifying the information of beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund’s supplementary support programme, according to the statement.

Rabadi noted in the statement that, following the completion of the first stage, new entities have been added, including the Department of Health Insurance, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Local Administration, the Land and Survey Department, the Ministry of Education, the Greater Amman Municipality and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

He added that work is under way to test information exchange between these agencies.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Information Centre were also added to the system to reduce operational costs and the cost of developing the infrastructure for these entities through hosting the database and interfacing with the government’s cloud computing system.

They were also added to ensure the sustainability and stability of the system and maintain the confidentiality and security of the information gathered, according to the statement.
