AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, the Jordanian Ambassador to France Bisher Khasawneh attended the opening of the Paris Peace Forum (PPF) on Sunday.

The PPF includes major participation from heads of states, governments and officials from around the world, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The forum aims to advance peace through a unified approach to enhancing global governance, promoting avenues to dispel international tensions through cooperation among states to meet cross-border challenges and collectively manage global public properties.

The PPF, which is being held for the first time, will discuss five topics, including peace and security, environment, development, digital space and modern technologies and the overall economy.

The global forum is also aimed at discussing experiences and finding innovative solutions to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals.

The PPF, scheduled to take place in Paris until November 13, is expected to be an annual event, with approximately 20,000 participants from the fields of politics, economics, academia, media and civil society, the organisers said.

French President Emmanuel Macron, in comments made in January said: “It will be the occasion to think about the world order on the sidelines of the commemorations of World War I, in order to underline what is our responsibility, us who should know better than our previous generations what drove humanity to disasters in the past, and what could cause its loss in the future.”
