AMMAN — The Royal Film Commission’s (RFC) “One-metre away and more” competition, named after the distance required between two individuals to stop the spread of the coronavirus, has revealed creative talents in the field of short films.

The competition, launched at the end of March through social media platforms, presented an opportunity to share experiences and thoughts and tell audio and video stories about mandatory isolation and its repercussions, according to winners and organisers of the competition.

Mohannad Bakri, CEO of the RFC, said that the first stage of the competition witnessed the submission of 47 short films, of which 36 met the requirements, while the jury chose the best three films to be published on Facebook to let people vote for their favourite entry.

During the second stage, 18 films were received and the committee also chose three films for audience voting, he added, noting that the awards of the competition are allocated for social institutions under the names of the winners as an initiative for social cohesion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Raghad Tamimi, the winner of the first stage, said that the coronavirus crisis is a historical event that is worth being documented.

Aubaidah Assaleh, the second-stage winner, stressed that the competition has had “a great role” in alleviating the psychological and social repercussions of the curfew, as well as contributing in activating the capabilities of young people in the filmmaking field.
