Safadi to deliver Kingdom’s address at first Arab-EU summit today

AMMAN — Heading Jordan’s delegation to the first Arab-EU summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi is scheduled on Monday to deliver the Kingdom’s address to representatives from 50 countries.
 
On the sidelines of the two-day gathering, held under the slogan “Investing in Stability”, Safadi will meet with several heads of delegations and officials, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
 
The top diplomat met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and discussed ways of enhancing ties between the two countries at all levels, with both sides affirming the “deep bilateral relations” between Jordan and Lebanon, according to the statement.
 
In discussions with EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, Safadi went over developments in the efforts aiming to break the stalemate in the Middle East peace process, as well as the Syrian crisis.
 
The minister also discussed economic cooperation and the upcoming London initiative to support Jordan’s economy and investment, slated for February 28, during talks with Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
 
Safadi met as well with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit over means of enhancing joint Arab action, the 
statement added.
 
Meanwhile, talks took place with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics on improving bilateral ties, particularly in the fields of trade, education and tourism.
 
With his Spanish counterpart, Josep Borrell, Safadi tackled efforts to improve cooperation between the two countries at the economic and investment levels, as well as regional developments.
