London conference may end up increasing pressure on Qatar

Alarabiya

British parliamentarians and experts have suggested that the conference, which Qatar is preparing to organize in London, would magnify pressure on Doha rather than alleviate it.

Members of the British parliament have said that the conference would be a public initiative to understand Qatar’s position and policy on terrorism amid accusations from its neighbors of supporting terrorism and sponsoring radical groups and harboring their leaders.

However, it has been said that the London conference would increase international pressure on Qatar despite Doha spending huge sums of money to avoid further pressure.

British MP Daniel Kaczynski said it was important for the UK to get to know and cooperate with Gulf allies to call on Qatar to make the necessary reforms and change its policies that have led to tension in the region.

He urged Britain to cooperate with the Gulf allies to resolve the crisis in Qatar, as Europe has begun to pay serious attention to sanctuaries of terrorism, whether related to countries such as Qatar, or groups moving in its orbit, such as the Muslim Brotherhood.

Kaczynski said that the conference would pave the way for a position aimed at exerting pressure on Qatar to review the policy of supporting terrorism, noting that Europe’s openness to the Qatari opposition is a strong message to Doha that if it does not change its policy, alternatives exist.
