AMMAN — Jordan, Egypt and France on Thursday held a coordination meeting online to discuss progress in a humanitarian effort to rebuild Gaza, which suffered immense destruction under last month's Israeli aggression against the strip.

 

The three partners issued a statement announcing that representatives of the three countries’ foreign ministries followed up on the endeavors the three countries have exerted in the past few days to "advance joint efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip."

 

Meanwhile, the diplomats "reiterated their commitment to the two-state solution in accordance with international law and agreed on terms of references, as the only solution that guarantees the rights of all parties. They also stressed the importance of ending all unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution and the chances of peace, and the need to preserve the status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem," according to the statement.

 

Following a Paris meeting on May 18 between His Majesty King Abdullah, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron, it was announced that Egypt would allocate $500 million for rebuilding efforts in the Gaza strip following Israeli air strikes, Reuters reported on May 18.

 

Egyptian companies will participate in the rebuilding operations, according to the statement that followed the meeting, cited by the agency.

 

Hundreds of buildings were destroyed in 11 days of Israeli raids against the densely-populated Gaza Strip and tens of thousands were left homeless before an Egypt-brokered ceasefire went into effect.
