Al Ghad’s Al Shuaibi on Israeli aggression on Gaza

The Jordan Times

Al Ghad’s Issa Al Shuaibi said the Israeli aggression on Gaza is bound to have several outcomes, including political. It is important to realise that war is an extension of politics, though war involves different acts of violence, said the writer, adding that politics could also be an extension of war. Every military battle is actually a political issue where the two combating parties disagree not only about who is responsible for starting the war, but also about how it should end and who the winner is, said the columnist. In Israel’s war on Gaza, the picture will become clearer after the two sides reach an agreement on a lasting ceasefire or an armistice, said the writer. The only winners of the war on Gaza are likely Egypt and the Palestinian Authority, even though they did not take part in the war, said the columnist, adding that Egypt made the only proposal intended to end the war. Contrary to Hamas’ wish, which sought to marginalise the Palestinian Authority from the very beginning, PA came up with a unified Palestinian delegation entrusted to engage in negotiations, said the writer, adding that it also supported the Egyptian proposal for ending war. Cairo, on the other hand, managed to regain some of its traditional role as supporter of the Palestinians and brought Hamas to the negotiation table, a first success for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, said the columnist.
