AMMAN — Under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and a ministerial team on Saturday inspected a group of development and service projects in the Theban Municipality, Madaba Governorate.

 

The tour, which included the ministers of public works and housing, agriculture, water and youth, came in implementation of directives His Majesty issued during a meeting with dignitaries and representatives of the people of the Bani Hamida tribe in the Hashemite Royal Court last Monday as part of the Basman Forum meetings.

 

Issawi and the ministerial team began the tour by visiting the Madaba Industrial City and listening to a briefing from Director General of the Jordan Industrial Estates Corporation Omar Juwa’id, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

Juwa’id told the ministerial team that the completion rate of the industrial city project has reached 90 per cent and that feasibility studies conducted indicate that the project will attract approximately 60 industrial companies with an investment amount of JD150 million.

 

The project, which King Abdullah laid the cornerstone for in 2016, aims to attract investments to the region and provide job opportunities for the people of the governorate.

 

Issawi and the ministerial team also visited Wala Dam and were briefed by Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud on the process of upgrading the dam to raise its capacity from 9 million to 25 million cubic metres.

 

Abul Saud added that the upgrade will increase the feeding of Al Haidan underground wells, providing water to Madaba Governorate and parts of Amman.

 

Assistant Secretary General of the dams department at the Water Ministry Hisham Heisa said that the project is 75 per cent complete and is expected to reach full completion in November of this year, Petra reported.

 

Issawi and the ministerial team also toured a medical supplies factory for dialysis machines, which will commence operations soon, providing 130 job opportunities in 2020.
