AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) paid over JD1 billion in pensions to 230,000 retiring subscribers in 2018.

 

The SSC paid a total of JD1.019 billion in pensions last year, in addition to JD90 million in insurance payouts, SSC Spokesperson Mousa Sbeihi said.

 

“Despite the hike in expenditures and SSC programme payouts, the SSC is in a comfortable financial situation,” Sbeihi was quoted as saying in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

 

He added that the SSC’s insurance revenues exceeded JD1.74 billion in 2018, registering an increase of approximately 11 per cent from 2017.

 

The overall value of pension and insurance spending reached JD1.110 billion in 2018, compared with JD966 million the year before, the statement added.

 

Sbeihi said that the total number of active subscribers reached 1,296,000, which accounts for 64 per cent of the workforce in Jordan.
