AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday discussed with a US Congress delegation the latest regional developments, with a focus on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Syrian crisis and issues pertaining to counterterrorism.

The delegation, on a visit to the Kingdom organised by the UN, is comprised of Congressmen Adam Kinzinger, Vincent Gonzales and Tom Graves, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi affirmed the depth of strategic relations between Jordan and the US, as he expressed his appreciation for US support to the Kingdom.

The talks tackled the challenges facing Jordan’s most vital sectors due to hosting 3.3 million Syrians in spite of harsh economic conditions.

“Jordan is dealing with exceptional circumstances due to the various regional conflicts and the weight of the refugee influx. This requires action by the international community to help Jordan face these challenges,” Safadi reiterated.

The minister stressed Jordan’s firm stance on the need to unite efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in the region and the necessity of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, coexisting side by side with Israel, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Discussions also addressed international counterterrorism efforts within a holistic approach, according to Petra.

The lawmakers reiterated the importance of Jordan’s efforts in sustaining regional peace and stability, stressing their keenness to enhance Jordanian-US relations.
