Culture Minister Haifa Najjar on Sunday discussed with UNESCO Representative in Jordan Min Jeong Kim means of boosting ties between the ministry and the UN organization.

The ministry is setting a legislative framework to regulate the cultural work in Jordan, in order to become a platform to build bridges, establish sustainable partnerships, support entrepreneurship and creativity, and develop productive cultural industries, the minister said according to a statement.

The UNESCO Representative stressed that Jordan is a reliable partner, especially in the cultural field, noting that the UN organization has a participatory plan with the ministry to translate what has been included in the national plan for the intangible cultural heritage into programs and training workshops, the first of which will be held in February in Irbid.

The two officials also discussed ways to promote the 2020-2023 media and information literacy program, implemented in cooperation with the ministries of education, higher education, scientific research, and youth, along with civil society institutions.

"The program aims at raising awareness of rational handling of information sources, combating rumors and misinformation, and upholding the values of credibility in the local society," the statement added.
