Al Arabiya

The Saudi Directorate of Civil Defense in Najran has readied to face any emergency that may result from Cyclone Mekunu, after the storm lashed neighboring Oman and caused at least two deaths.

The Spokesman of the Directorate of Civil Defense in Najran, Captain Abdul Khaliq Ali Al-Qahtani, pointed to a report by the Saudi General Authority of Meteorology and Environment Protection on the status of the cyclone and upon that they are taking the necessary measures and raise their readiness based on the national plan to face any risk and natural disasters.

He said the Civil Defense has reinforced the department in the governorate of Sharurah with personnel and equipment in order to deal with any emergency, as reported by Saudi Press Agency.

Civil Defense teams in Najran urged residents to be careful about these possible weather fluctuations in the region in the coming days and to keep an eye on alerts and warnings from official sources for any developments, with commitment to staying at home and not to go out, and refer to the civil defense website and social media accounts for any updates.

The main committee of the civil defense in the region held two meetings in the city of Najran and the governorate of Sharurah, to discuss the readiness and willingness of the parties concerned to implement the work of the civil defense in the face of natural disasters, and to confirm full readiness to cope with the consequences of Cyclone Mekunu.
