AMMAN — Water Minister Raed Abul Saud on Tuesday signed an agreement to construct a wastewater pipeline from the Ain Ghazal purification station to the Khirbet Al Samra purification station at a cost of 32 million euros.

The 30.4-kilometre project will be implemented by a local contractor and will be funded jointly by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and grants from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the World Bank's Global Concessional Financing Facility, according to a ministry statement.

Abul Saud said that the carrier will be a “qualitative addition” to the sanitation sector in the Kingdom, noting that the ministry is going on with its environmental protection policies and increasing the number of people who have access to sanitation networks.

The minister expressed appreciation for the support of countries and institutions in securing the funds necessary for the project of the 1,500-millimetre carrier that will help reduce the hydraulic loads on the current carrier.
