Though our challenges may vary, we share same destiny — King

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday affirmed Jordan’s support for its Arab brothers in defending their interests and safeguarding their security and stability, expressing the Kingdom’s firm rejection of any attempts to meddle in the internal affairs of Arab states or threaten their sovereignty or security in any way.

In an address delivered at the emergency Arab summit in Mecca, King Abdullah said regional stability cannot take place without a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause, based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, to enable the Palestinian people to obtain their just and legitimate right to an independent state on the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to a Royal statement.

“It is imperative to face the increasing challenges that our Arab world is witnessing by truly implementing the concept of joint Arab action. Though our challenges may vary, we share the same destiny,” His Majesty said.

“For us in Jordan, the security of Arab Gulf states represents a fundamental pillar of the security and stability of the region. The security of our brothers and our security are one and the same,” the King affirmed.

Following is the full translation of His Majesty’s speech:

“In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful,

Prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad,

My brother, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz,

Your Majesties, Highnesses, Excellencies,

Your Excellency Secretary General of the League of Arab States,

Peace, God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.

It is my pleasure to express sincere thanks and deep appreciation to my brother, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for convening this emergency Arab summit in the holy city of Mecca — which comes at a time when the Arab Ummah is in need of unifying its positions and shared vision — and for the gracious hospitality, warm welcome and excellent organisation.

Your Majesties, Highnesses, Excellencies,

Distinguished guests,

This summit convenes in these blessed days, as our Arab Ummah faces many challenges that call upon us all to intensify our work and step up coordination to unite Arab ranks and strengthen joint Arab action to confront the dangers that surround our nation.

We in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan reaffirm our support for our Arab brethren in defending their interests and safeguarding their security and stability. We also stress our firm rejection of any attempts to meddle in the internal affairs of our brotherly Arab states or threaten their sovereignty or security in any way, the latest of which were the attacks that we condemn and reject on the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

We also stress here that for us in Jordan, the security of Arab Gulf states represents a fundamental pillar of the security and stability of the region. The security of our brothers and our security are one and the same.

Therefore, it is imperative to face the increasing challenges that our Arab world is witnessing by truly implementing the concept of joint Arab action. Though our challenges may vary, we share the same destiny.

My brothers,

Distinguished guests,

Bolstering regional stability cannot take place without a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative that enables the Palestinian people to obtain their just and legitimate right to an independent state on the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Finally, I must again thank my brother Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz for convening this summit, and I pray that the Almighty would grant us success to the benefit of our Ummah and our peoples.

Peace, God’s mercy and blessings be upon you.”

Jordan’s delegation to the summit, headed by His Majesty, included HRH Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty for Communication and Coordination Bisher Al Khasawneh, Special Adviser to His Majesty Ali Fazza and Jordan’s Permanent Representative at the Arab League Ali Ayed.
