AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi received a telephone call on Tuesday evening from Foreign Minister of Bahrain Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani.

 

The two ministers reaffirmed the depth of relations binding the two sisterly kingdoms and shared commitment to enhancing ties in the best interests of both nations and peoples, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

During the call, Safadi and Zayani reviewed regional developments and efforts aimed at restoring calm and enhancing security and stability.

 

They also stressed the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and reaching a comprehensive resolution to the crisis that addresses all underlying sources of tension.

 

The two top diplomats also affirmed the joint solidarity of both kingdoms in confronting Iranian attacks targeting them and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Also on Wednesday, Safadi discussed bilateral ties and regional developments in a phone call with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

 

The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to strengthen cooperation in efforts aimed at restoring security and stability across the region, another Foreign Ministry statement said.

 

Safadi and Sheikh Jarrah stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and reaching a comprehensive solution to the crisis that addresses all causes of tension, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and delivers lasting security and stability.

 

The ministers also condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council member states. The talks also covered the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, stemming from Israel's illegal measures to entrench the occupation and alter the historic and legal status quo at Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif.

 

The two ministers condemned the Israeli measures and called for a unified and effective regional and international position to counter them.

Safadi on Wednesday also held a phone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States Roberto Velasco. Safadi and Velasco discussed ways to bolster friendly relations between Jordan and Mexico, and expand partnership across various fields of mutual interest, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

The two ministers agreed to reactivate regular political consultations between their respective foreign ministries, in implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in 2015.

 

They agreed to hold the first round by the end of this year and to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September to discuss practical steps aimed at enhancing bilateral engagement.

 

Discussions also addressed regional developments and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, restore calm, and achieve security and stability in the region.

 

Safadi briefed his counterpart on developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the grave deterioration in the occupied West Bank resulting from illegal Israeli measures and ongoing violations against Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

 

Safadi congratulated Velasco on assuming his duties as foreign minister, expressing keenness to work together to advance bilateral ties and maintain co-ordination on issues of common concern.
