AMMAN — The Eastern Military Zone on Saturday foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the Kingdom within its area of responsibility.
The drugs were transported using balloons guided by advanced electronic devices and were detected by Border Guard units, which engaged the targets and brought down the balloons and their payload inside Jordanian territory, the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) said.
The seized materials were handled in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department and were referred to the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal action.
Also on Saturday, the Southern Military Zone on Saturday thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotics using a drone along its western front and within its area of responsibility.
According to a statement, the attempt was foiled in coordination with the military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, after Border Guard Forces detected the drone and applied the rules of engagement, resulting in its downing inside Jordanian territory.
The seized materials were subsequently referred to the relevant authorities.
