Unemployment rate in Jordan drops to 21.3% in Q1 2025

AMMAN — The unemployment rate in the Kingdom declined by 0.1 percentage points to 21.3 per cent, during the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Monday.
 
Over the past three years, the rate has dropped by 1.5 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2022, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
 
According to the quarterly unemployment report issued by DoS, the unemployment rate among males stood at 18.6 per cent, while the rate among females was 31.2 per cent during the first three months of 2025.
 
The report noted that the employment-to-population ratio for individuals aged 23 and above reached 31 per cent. Among working males, 60 per cent were within the 20–39 age group, while the corresponding figure for females was 58.2 per cent.
 
In terms of education levels, 46.3 per cent of employed individuals held qualifications below secondary level, 10.3 per cent held a secondary school certificate, and 43 per cent had post-secondary qualifications.
 
Wage employees accounted for 86.8 per cent of the workforce; 84.8 per cent among males and 95.4 per cent among females.
 
The report also showed that the share of expatriate workers in the total workforce declined to 44 per cent in the January-April period of 2025, compared to 44.7 per cent in the corresponding period of 2024, representing a decrease of 0.7 percentage points.
