AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) and its strategic partner, the Jordanian Campaign, concluded a free medical week in the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Yas Medical Centre, providing 1,845 medical consultations and services.

 

Organised between August 2 and 6, the initiative aimed to support the Gaza Strip's health sector and improve access to essential healthcare services amid ongoing humanitarian challenges, according to a JHCO statement.

 

The medical week covered a wide range of specialities alongside supportive medical services, including general medicine, paediatrics, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, general surgery, and internal medicine and nephrology.

 

According to statistical data, general medicine recorded the highest number of visits with 406 consultations, followed by dentistry with 327, dermatology with 130, paediatrics with 109, ENT with 76, general surgery with 17, and internal medicine and nephrology with 12.

 

Supportive medical services played a major role in the initiative, with the pharmacy providing 656 services and consultations, the laboratory recording 98 visits, and nursing services handling 14 visits, ensuring an integrated care pathway from initial checkups to diagnostic testing and treatment.

 

The implementation of the medical week comes as Gaza's healthcare system faces increasing pressure, making free specialised medical services a top priority to relieve burdens on families and secure access to basic healthcare.

 

The project is an extension of ongoing efforts by JHCO and the Jordanian Campaign inside Gaza to respond to critical humanitarian needs across vital sectors.

 

Jordan runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north and was established in 2009 following the war in 2008, and the second is in Khan Younis in the south, which was established in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023.

 

Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023.

 

Other humanitarian programmes include the land bridge for aid delivery, the mobile bakery, the Restoring Hope Initiative, which provides prosthetics for amputees, and the evacuation of critical cases to Jordanian hospitals.
