AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi on Thursday met with Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov on the sidelines of the 20th Conference of Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
During the meeting, Qadi and Shahbazov highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Azerbaijan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, stressing that the strong relationship provides a solid foundation for expanding cooperation across various sectors, particularly energy.
Qadi noted that Jordan offers an advanced legislative and investment environment for the energy sector, adding that recent years have witnessed significant developments in regulations governing investment, conventional energy and renewable energy projects, according to a Lower House statement.
The two sides reviewed a preliminary framework for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy production, export and supply, and explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors.
Shahbazov underscored the importance of signing an MoU on energy cooperation between the relevant ministries in Jordan and Azerbaijan and establishing a joint working group to identify future areas of collaboration.
The meeting was attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Omar Nahar, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Jordan Shahin Shaker Abdullayev, Head of the Jordanian Parliamentary Friendship Committee MP Hussein Krishan, MPs Atallah Hneiti and Mohammad Bani Melhem, and Senator Omar Ayasrah.
