AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Prince Asem Bin Nayef on Friday attended the 123rd Hashemite Scientific Council, held under the title “Analogy as the Basis of Juristic Reasoning and the Flexibility of Islamic Sharia”.

Speaking at the fourth and final session of 2026’s council, held at the Islamic Cultural Centre Hall of the King Abdullah I bin Al Hussein Mosque, Royal Hashemite Court Imam Ahmad Khalaileh and Secretary-General of the Iftaa Department Zaid Kilani addressed the gathering, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Khalaileh noted that analogy, which refers to extending the ruling of a known case in Islamic jurisprudence to a new case due to a shared underlying cause, enhances the understanding of the objectives of Sharia and the reasoning behind Islamic rulings.

He said that it also grants Islamic jurisprudence the flexibility to address emerging issues in a manner consistent with the principles and objectives of Islam.

Kilani said that analogy is closely linked to the principle of justice, as it is based on treating similar cases equally when they share the same underlying cause.

The Hashemite Scientific Councils are among the most prominent cultural and religious activities organised annually by the Ministry of Awqaf during the holy month of Ramadan under Royal patronage, aimed at promoting enlightened Islamic thought capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

The session was attended by Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Khalayleh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom Ahmad Hasanat, Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafez Rabtah, along with a number of officials, muftis, Sharia judges, imams and female religious guides.
