AMMAN — The Ajloun Forest Reserve, one of Jordan’s most prominent eco-tourism destinations, has attracted around 143,500 visitors since the beginning of 2025, reflecting a “steady” rise in domestic and international tourism to the northern region.

According to the reserve’s director, Odai Qudah, the growing interest highlights the reserve’s “unique” blend of biodiversity, scenic beauty, and sustainable tourism facilities.

“Ajloun has become a model for eco-tourism in Jordan,” Qudah said. “Visitors are drawn not only by the forest’s charm but also by the experience it offers… an encounter with nature that supports local livelihoods and raises environmental awareness.”

The reserve’s economic significance extends beyond entrance fees and guided tours. Local businesses, including lodges, restaurants, and craft shops, have benefited from the consistent flow of visitors, he added.

The reserve also employs members of the surrounding communities, integrating them into tourism operations and conservation efforts. This model, Qudah added, “ensures that environmental preservation goes hand in hand with economic opportunity.”

For many visitors, the reserve represents more than just a natural escape, as it is an example of how tourism can generate income while maintaining ecological balance.

“Every visit here feels like an investment in something meaningful,” said Bayan Hourani, a visitor from Amman. “You can enjoy the forest trails, learn about local species, and know that your presence supports people in the area.”

Others see it as a reminder of Jordan’s growing potential in the sustainable tourism sector. “It is incredible how well-maintained the reserve is,” said Ala’a Suptan, a tourist from Egypt. “It shows that eco-tourism can be profitable without harming the environment, which is something many countries in the region can learn from.”

With rising demand for environmentally conscious travel, the Ajloun Forest Reserve continues to position itself as a leading destination for those seeking nature, culture, and sustainability in one experience.
