AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Majdi Harasis, accompanied by heads of security agencies and senior Armed Forces officers, on Saturday visited national service conscripts injured in a bus accident.

 

Harasis checked on the injured at King Hussein Medical Centre, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Military Hospital and Karak Government Hospital, where specialised medical teams briefed him on their health conditions, treatment and ongoing care, according to a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) statement.

 

He directed medical teams to continue providing the required care and closely monitor their cases until their full recovery.

 

Harasis and the accompanying officials also offered condolences to the families of the conscripts who died in the accident, reiterating that the JAF would continue to support the bereaved families and follow up on the needs of the injured.

 

The accident occurred on Thursday at around 3:15pm when a civilian bus carrying conscripts returning to their homes in southern Jordan collided with a cargo vehicle.

 

Five conscripts and the bus driver were killed, while 18 conscripts were injured.

 

The deceased conscripts were laid to rest in their respective hometowns with full military honours.

 

Traffic Department Director Brig. Gen. Raed Assaf said preliminary investigations indicated that the cargo vehicle driver’s sudden lane change was the direct cause of the crash.

 

The Public Security Directorate said it formed a traffic investigation committee to determine the circumstances of the accident, with preliminary findings indicating that it resulted from human error.
