WFP highlights Jordan’s efforts in sustaining Gaza food aid

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The World Food Programme (WFP) on Wednesday reiterated Jordan’s pivotal role in delivering food assistance to the Gaza Strip, underscoring the Kingdom’s importance in international efforts to address the deepening humanitarian crisis.

According to a WFP report, cited by Al Mamlaka TV, nearly 10,735 tonnes of food have been delivered to Gaza since aid convoys resumed in June 2025, in cooperation with the Jordanian government and the Logistics Cluster. The supplies were transported via 629 trucks, with August alone accounting for 5,545 tonnes delivered through 307 trucks.

The report emphasised the Kingdom’s coordinating role in facilitating the passage of aid convoys through its territory, ensuring the continued flow of essential food supplies to Gaza’s population amid worsening humanitarian needs.

Israeli occupation authorities announced last Thursday the suspension of aid entry from Jordan until further notice, following a shooting incident on the other side of the King Hussein Bridge/Al Karameh crossing.

Secretary-General of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) Hussein Shibli said that more than 8,664 trucks have been dispatched to Gaza despite mounting challenges and repeated attempts to obstruct aid delivery.

“We are ready to send more than 150 trucks daily, but Israel has not honoured its commitments to allow the entry of food and humanitarian aid,” Shibli told Al Mamlaka in a previous statement.

He stressed that significant restrictions remain in place, including the prevention of essential supplies such as medical materials, while also pointing to newly imposed Israeli fees on aid trucks entering the Strip.
