AMMAN — The Public Prosecutor assigned to investigate the recent death of a detainee at the RamthaPolice Directorate on Thursday ordered the detention of several Public Security Directorate (PSD) officers in connection with the case.
According to PSD Spokesperson Amer Sartawi, the prosecutor leading the investigation committee, formed by the Police Judiciary upon directives from the PSD director, had decided to hold a number of officers in custody at the Police Correction and Rehabilitation Centre pending further investigation.
The spokesperson stressed that the case will be referred to the Police Court once all investigation procedures are complete, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Sartawi said that the PSD director ordered an investigation into the death of a detainee who had been hospitalised multiple times while in custody at the Ramtha Police Directorate.
The detainee was first taken to the hospital after his arrest, examined, and discharged with a report stating he was in good condition. He was later returned to the hospital following complaints of abdominal pain.
