Gov't publishes instructions on deferring national service for nationals abroad

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Official Gazette on Thursday published the Instructions on the Principles and Conditions for Deferring the National Service Programme for Jordanians Residing Abroad for 2026, issued pursuant to Article 4(A)(9) of the National Service and Reserve Service Law No. 23 of 1986 and its amendments.

The instructions, approved by the Cabinet on January 4, take effect upon publication, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

They apply to eligible Jordanians residing outside the Kingdom for non-study purposes and holding valid residency documents issued by host countries, including for work, training, family reunification or similar reasons.

Under the instructions, conscripts may obtain a deferral if they have resided abroad for at least four consecutive months or six non-consecutive months within a calendar year from the date of the call-up, subject to submitting official proof of residency.

Required documents include a valid residency permit or official certificate specifying the type of residence, certified copies in accordance with applicable regulations, and, where relevant, a duly authenticated permanent or temporary employment contract.

Six thousand young Jordanians born in 2007 were selected to join next year’s programme. The intake is divided into three batches of 2,000 conscripts each.
