Lower House denounces US ambassador’s remarks on Israel’s sovereignty over region

AMMAN — The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee on Saturday condemned remarks by the US ambassador to Israel, who reportedly said that the US accepts Israel’s sovereignty over the entire Middle East, including the occupied West Bank.
The committee described the remarks as “absurd and provocative,” saying they violate diplomatic norms, threaten regional sovereignty, breach international law and the UN Charter, and contradict US President Donald Trump’s stated rejection of West Bank annexation.
The committee also stressed that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are “occupied Palestinian territories” under international resolutions, emphasising that the only path to a just and comprehensive peace lies in ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty over all occupied Palestinian land based on the two-state solution.
Members of the committee said "such irresponsible remarks have no legal standing and only risk undermining efforts to calm tensions and escalate conflict in the region."
They also urged the international community to join efforts to stabilise Gaza and implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803, instead of taking provocative positions that disregard international law.
The committee stressed that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership and through its legislative institutions, will continue to defend legitimate Palestinian rights and the sovereignty and stability of regional states against any attempts to impose a new reality in violation of international law.
