Jordan welcomes Hamas ‘positive’ response to Trump ceasefire proposal

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Saturday welcomed the Palestinian group Hamas’s “positive response” to a ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump, calling it a “significant step” toward ending the war in Gaza and its catastrophic consequences.

In a statement, the ministry also welcomed President Trump's call for an immediate ceasefire to pave the way for a prisoner exchange deal outlined in his plan, a proposal that Hamas has agreed to.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali praised the efforts of Egypt and Qatar in mediating a permanent ceasefire, reiterating Jordan’s support for the US initiative, which includes a framework for ending the war, rebuilding Gaza, preventing the displacement of Palestinians, and reviving the peace process.

“Jordan values its partnership with the United States as a cornerstone of efforts to resolve the conflict and achieve a just peace,” Majali said.

He underscored Jordan’s rejection of any attempts to annex the West Bank and called for renewed international momentum toward a two-state solution based on international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Majali stressed the urgent need to end Israeli military operations in Gaza, open humanitarian corridors, and ensure the entry of sustained aid across the besieged enclave.

“Jordan stands ready to resume the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza as soon as Israel lifts restrictions, in accordance with international and humanitarian law,” he added.

The spokesperson expressed Jordan’s readiness to continue working with regional and international partners, including the US, to push for a lasting peace agreement that ensures Palestinian statehood and regional stability.
