AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotic Department (AND) on Wednesday said police arrested several wanted suspects, including three members affiliated to a regional gang, in connection with nine illicit drug cases in various parts of the Kingdom in the past few days, according to police.
Law-enforcement officers also seized large amounts of illicit drugs and weapons from some of the suspects, according to Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi.
One of the cases, according to Sartawi, involved monitoring a Jordanian suspect in Ruweished who was “believed to have ties with a regional gang”.
“Police pinpointed his whereabouts and arrested him without any major incident,” Sartawi said.
Investigators allegedly found 120,000, two firearms and some special equipment “that the suspect used to detect certain locations and communicate with the regional gang,” he added.
In a second case, Sartawi added, “police received a report about two Madaba men who had ties to international gangs and placed them under surveillance”.
“The two were arrested and police found 10 kilogrammes of Hashish and 0.5 grammes of cocaine,” the police official said.
In other areas of the Kingdom, police arrested seven suspects in several drug bust operations in Amman and Aqaba.
The law-enforcement officers seized various quantities of Hashish, Cocaine, Crystal meth, Captagon pills and marijuana, according to Sartawi.
All suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecution office for further questioning and indictment, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.
