Jordanian field hospital in northern Gaza resumes operation

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said on Wednesday that it has resumed operations at the Jordanian field hospital in the Tel Al Hawa area, north of the Gaza Strip, following the completion of repair and re-equipment works.

In its initial phase, the hospital has begun receiving emergency and critical cases, with services set to expand gradually to include specialist outpatient clinics, laboratory services and radiology, helping to ease the severe pressure on the healthcare system in northern Gaza, according to a JAF statement.

The hospital had sustained damage in September due to ongoing developments on the ground, which temporarily prevented patients from accessing its services. Medical and support staff were subsequently relocated to southern Gaza until security conditions allowed a safe return.

A comprehensive technical assessment was later conducted, followed by maintenance and repair works on both the buildings and medical equipment to ensure full operational readiness, the statement read.

Medical and nursing teams will continue their humanitarian duties despite ongoing challenges, reflecting Jordan’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating their suffering, jAF said.

Jordan runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north and was established in 2009 following the war in 2008, and the second is in Khan Younis in the south, which was established in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023.

Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023.

Other humanitarian programmes include the land bridge for aid delivery, the mobile bakery, the Restoring Hope Initiative, which provides prosthetics for amputees, and the evacuation of critical cases to Jordanian hospitals.
