AMMAN — The Southern Military Region on Thursday thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics carried by guided balloons as they attempted to cross the border into Jordanian territory.
Border Guard units within their area of responsibility detected the balloons, intercepted and downed them, and seized their narcotics payload in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to initiate the necessary legal procedures.
The JAF reaffirmed that Border Guard forces will firmly and efficiently continue to confront all smuggling attempts regardless of the methods used, ensuring the protection of the Kingdom's borders and preventing narcotics from entering Jordanian territory.
