AMMAN — The King Hussein Bridge will reopen to passenger traffic on Friday from 8:00am to 2:00pm, while cargo transport will remain suspended, the Bridge Security Department (PSD) announced on Thursday.

In a statement, the Public Security Directorate urged passengers to adhere to their booking schedules and arrive at the bridge one hour prior to their reservation time.

It also stressed the importance of following official media outlets for any updates regarding possible changes to bridge operations, including opening and closing times.

The crossing, also known as the Karameh Bridge, had been closed by Israeli authorities following a shooting incident on the opposite side of the border.

Israeli media reported that two Israelis were killed and two others critically injured in the suspected attack near the bridge.

The Foreign Ministry said it had launched an official investigation into the incident, condemning it as a “serious violation of international law and a direct threat to the Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts in Gaza.”

According to the ministry, the suspected assailant was identified as 56-year-old Jordanian Abdul-Muttalib Al Qaisi, who had been working as a humanitarian aid truck driver for the past three months.

Reiterating Jordan’s “firm rejection of violent and unlawful acts” that jeopardise its interests, the ministry stressed the Kingdom’s pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.
