AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi emphasised on Friday the need for joint regional and international efforts to stabilise the ceasefire in Lebanon.
Safadi also called for supporting the Lebanese government in its efforts to assert its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and ensure that weapons are held exclusively by the state, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The foreign minister’s remarks came during meetings with counterparts at Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where he also praised the efforts of US President Donald Trump in reaching the ceasefire agreement.
Safadi also stressed the need for the international community to take “firm and effective” positions to protect security and stability in the region from Israeli attacks and escalating policies against Lebanon, Syria, and in the occupied West Bank, the statement said.
He said that Israel continues to expand settlements, annex Palestinian land, and attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, “posing a serious threat to the prospects for achieving a just peace and constituting a blatant violation of international law.”
He also emphasised the importance of implementing all provisions of US President Trump’s plan to achieve stability in Gaza, and ensuring the adequate delivery of humanitarian aid into the war-torn Strip.
Safadi also stressed during his meetings the importance of ensuring that efforts built on the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran lead to a sustainable solution that addresses all causes of past regional tensions, adheres to international law, and respects state sovereignty and freedom of navigation.
Safadi, who also discussed with his counterparts ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, affirmed that Jordan will continue to work toward achieving security and stability in the region and a just peace that fulfills the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and an independent, sovereign state on their national soil, with the two-state solution as the only path.
He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s full solidarity with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and Jordan’s support for all steps they take to protect their security, stability, and the safety of their citizens.
Discussions during the meetings also addressed ways to create broader prospects for bilateral cooperation in economic, tourism, investment, and defense fields.
