Husband confesses to murdering, burying wife in Irbid - Police

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Saturday began questioning a man who allegedly murdered and buried his 18-year-old wife in Irbid three months ago, official sources said.

Police received a tip that a married woman disappeared without being reported by her husband or family, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“We took this information very seriously, and an investigation team was tasked with investigating her disappearance,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The team determined that her husband was “allegedly the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance,” according to the police official.

“The husband was summoned for investigations and he confessed to murdering his wife following domestic disputes,” Sartawi said.

The 31-year-old suspect reportedly ushered police to where “he buried his wife in a remote forest area,” according to Sartawi.

A team of investigators and forensic experts found “the body was buried in a hole with bags of manure placed over her body,” a senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

A post-mortem conducted by a team of pathologists at the Irbid National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that the victim died of multiple bruises to her skull, according to the senior medical source.

“The victim died of internal brain haemorrhage,” the senior medical source said.

The pathologists estimated that the victim had been dead for almost 20 days, the senior medical source added.

The Criminal Court prosecutor will summon the victim and the suspect’s family members for questioning, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.

The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor for 15 days pending further investigation.
