King Abdullah’s vision: Industry as an engine for jobs, growth - By Editorial, The Jordan Times
His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to industrial facilities in Qastal on Tuesday was an encouragement for local industries performing well in the local and international markets. The visit showed that Jordan encourages such industries, appreciates their contributions and takes pride in their achievements.
By visiting three locally well-established industries operating in different industrial sectors, the King sent a strong message of support to local industries to continue venturing international markets while creating more job opportunities in the process.
King Abdullah toured several factories, including Pharma International Company (Axantia Group), Haj Mahmoud Habibah and Sons and Jitan Group’s Paradise Bakeries. Each of the factories shows vital pillars of Jordan’s industrial potential.
King Abdullah’s visit is another clear message to the industrial sector; that it is central to Jordan’s economic progress, creation of job opportunities and international competitiveness.
The King frequently visits industries across the Kingdom to encourage local industries and ensure that Jordanian businesses are prepared to venture regional and global markets with high competency.
It is heartwarming to witness Jordanian young men and women working at these state-of-the-art factories with confidence and pride. Their presence at the factories is a reminder of the importance of local employment and skills development in an ever-changing world, where technology evolves rapidly and global markets are constantly shifting, often challenged by disruptions in supply chains and regional conflicts.
And as unemployment in Jordan, especially among the youth, remain a pressing challenge, it is imperative to expand and revolutionse the industrial sector and increase its capacity to create employment opportunities that engage a new generation that is tech-savvy and ready to contribute in the age of AI.
King Abdullah always highlights that industrial growth must be prioritised as a strategic national goal. Therefore, manufacturing remains one of the most reliable means of creating new job opportunities, especially in non-urban areas and governorates that struggle with high unemployment.
The success stories that these three companies hold highlight the importance of the continued support the government extends to industries, starting with simplifying the export procedures, reducing production costs as well as focusing on vocational training of young men and women to match the needs of factories running in different sectors.
On the other hand, the private sector also shoulders the responsibility of maintaining high standards required to remain competitive whether locally or internationally, and also invest in innovation, research and development.
From Al Qastal, the message was clear: Jordan’s factories are not merely sites of production but are actually the engines of Jordan’s economic stability and opportunity. Strengthening our industries translates directly into strengthening Jordan.
