AMMAN — Jordan on Monday welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, calling the move a significant step towards de-escalating rising tensions in the region.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah stressed need to uphold the agreement and resort to dialogue and diplomacy as the means to address all crises in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
Qudah reiterated that implementing a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, is the key to achieving peace, security, and stability in the region.
He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israeli military actions, warning of the worsening humanitarian situation there. He also urged the international community to support a genuine political process aimed at realising a just peace, based relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
