The U.S. Embassy in Beirut confirmed on Monday that talks between Lebanon and Israel in Rome are ongoing, expressing hope that both governments will successfully reach positive outcomes.

 

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa, stated: "I am pleased that the talks in Rome are ongoing, and I hope both governments succeed in reaching positive results. A significant amount of technical work is still required to ensure the safety of civilians on the ground."

 

He added: "There is a fundamental difference between drafting an agreement on paper and executing it responsibly; rushing forward could jeopardize the civilians whom this process aims to protect."

 

He continued: "We believe that taking the necessary time to complete this work properly from the outset is the best course of action, as it will enable subsequent pilot areas to launch more efficiently."

 

Issa noted that "above all else, both parties must agree on a clear and practical mechanism before proceeding to the next stage."
