AMMAN — Tourism facilities in Ajloun recorded a 100 per cent occupancy rate during the weekend, in a scene reflecting growing demand for domestic tourism and underscoring the sector’s expanding role in supporting sustainable development in the governorate.

Stakeholders in the tourism and development sectors said that the surge in demand is a positive indicator of the sector’s recovery and contributes to stimulating economic activity, particularly for local communities that rely directly on tourism-related activities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Saturday.

Head of the Ajloun Governorate Council Committee Muawiya Annab said that reaching such occupancy levels reflects the governorate’s appeal and the diversity of its natural and environmental assets.

He stressed the importance of continued support for tourism projects and infrastructure to ensure the sustainability of this growth.

President of the Ajloun Chamber of Commerce Arab Smadi said that the rise in tourism occupancy rates has a positive spillover effect on various commercial and service sectors in the governorate.

He noted that the activity helps revitalise local markets and boost consumer spending, particularly in restaurants, handicrafts and tourism services.

He added that sustaining this momentum requires enhanced tourism promotion and improved services and infrastructure to ensure continued demand and generate tangible economic returns for local communities.

The Ajloun Cable Car, operated by the Jordan Free and Development Zones Group, recorded an exceptional turnout on Friday, welcoming 5,728 visitors on a single day, underscoring its growing appeal as a key weekend destination in northern Jordan.

The surge in visitors was attributed to Ajloun’s mild spring weather, coupled with the unique experience offered by the cable car, which combines lush natural scenery with sweeping panoramic views.

Operational and supervisory teams stepped up efforts to ensure smooth visitor flow and organised entry, with field staff working efficiently throughout the day to manage the large crowds while maintaining high safety standards and service quality.

The site’s management stressed its commitment to further enhancing the visitor experience and upgrading services, reinforcing the Ajloun Cable Car’s standing as a leading tourism attraction in the Kingdom.

In light of the strong turnout, the Ajloun Spring Festival at the cable car site has been extended until May 2.

The Ajloun Cable Car is one of the “flagship” projects of the Jordan Free and Development Zones Group, playing a key role in boosting tourism and economic activity in the region and attracting visitors from across the Kingdom and beyond.

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Thabet Nabulsi said that Aqaba is witnessing increasing tourism activity, supported by expanded partnerships with regional markets.

Nabulsi noted that hotel occupancy rates in Aqaba reached 87 per cent over the weekend, distributed at 92 per cent for five-star hotels, 83 per cent for four-star hotels, and 88 per cent for three-star hotels, indicating rising demand for the city.

He expressed expectations that this momentum will continue, with occupancy rates likely to increase further in the coming period.
