AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday condemned Israeli plans and measures aimed at confiscating Palestinian properties and Islamic endowments in the Bab Al Silsila neighbourhood adjacent to Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif.

In a statement, the ministry described these measures as a “flagrant” violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali reiterated Jordan’s “absolute” rejection and condemnation of Israeli measures aimed at evicting Palestinians from their homes and businesses, seizing endowment and historical properties, and altering the demographic composition, character and legal status of occupied Jerusalem.

He warned of the consequences of escalating measures targeting the surroundings of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and the routes leading to it, stressing that such actions constitute a “direct violation” of the existing historical and legal status quo.

Majali stressed that all Israeli measures are “null and void” and carry no legal legitimacy, adding that the continued policies of the Israeli government, which entrench the occupation and violate international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, undermine prospects for peace based on the two-state solution.

He said the two-state solution remains the only path to guaranteeing the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent and sovereign state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The spokesperson also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its “dangerous” escalation and “unilateral illegal” measures.

He warned that such actions would lead to further deterioration and escalation, stressing that fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on their national soil, remains the only path towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
