AMMAN — The Ministry of Social Development and the Arab Society for Public Awareness from Dangerous Drugs and Narcotics on Wednesday signed a cooperation agreement aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse nationwide.

Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa stressed the ongoing national efforts to combat drugs, highlighting the roles played by various ministries, official institutions, and the Public Security Directorate, in addition to collaboration with the society, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She pointed out the ministry’s role in boosting cooperation and partnership with voluntary entities working in humanitarian services, which contributes to providing better services to those in need of protection, care and development.

The minister said that cooperation in drug awareness aims to protect young people and adolescents from drug use, pointing out that the initiative would include organising and conducting awareness lectures throughout all governorates, via the ministry’s directorates and youth rehabilitation centres.

Abdullah Owaidat, president of the society, praised the cooperation with the ministry in drug awareness, given the damaging effects of narcotics on youth and society as a whole, noting that this collaboration complements the society ongoing awareness efforts, which have included several Jordanian universities.

Also on Wednesday, the ministry and the Hareer Foundation for community development signed a memorandum of understanding to build a strategic partnership in the fields of community engagement, human empowerment, and support for the most vulnerable groups.

General Director of Hareer Foundation Nihad Dabbas underlined the importance of such partnerships in supporting national objectives for a “sustainable nation,” an empowered population, and an informed, capable youth with leadership potential and the ability to make a positive impact within their communities, Petra reported.

He noted that this collaboration stems from Hareer’s “strong” belief in the importance of integrating roles, asserting that community work only achieves meaningful impact through institutional partnerships built on trust and shared vision.
